Soundbytes Of The Decade - #4 Jim Mora

As we reach the Final 4 Soundbytes of the Decade, we come to one of my personal favorites, and a soundbyte legend, Mr. Jim Mora. Jim Mora is one of my all-time favorite personalities in sports because he was the man that first led my Saints to prominence. He was the coach of the franchise's first winning season, division title, and playoff appearance. Granted, he never won a playoff game, and his last few years were pretty God-awful, but he was still the man. Plus, he could give a hilarious soundbyte. It was a sad day when he finally left New Orleans, but he blessed us with a parting gift out the door when he resigned in 1996... yes, it's a bonus soundbyte!!

Once Jim Mora moved on to Indianapolis, he found more success on the field and more fame in the pressroom. In his 2nd year in Indy in 1999, he went 13-3 with Peyton Manning at the helm in his second year. However, he's most known for a 2001 quote after a November loss to the 49ers that put the team at 4-6. It's funny because this rant didn't lead to great success, Mora's Colts whimpered through the rest of the season and he was fired and replaced by Tony Dungy after the season. However, this is the pinnacle of great rants in its genuine nature and simplicity. Jim Mora's not like the boring, secret service NFL coaches (Belichik, Bill) that treat the media and the fans with disdain while circling the wagons like they have the secret to the next fusion bomb. Mora always told it like it was, which was refreshing. Everybody who is a football fan, and an American sports fan knows Jim Mora for one word: Playoffs. Let's get in the way-back machine and travel to 2001. How bout that game Jim, and about those playoffs...

Tune in tomorrow for our #3 Soundbyte of the Decade when we go from Playoffs to Practice... yea it's a dead giveaway, I had to give you one though, right??

Saints one is much better, but the Mora one is beautiful. Good choice.
