Soundbytes Of The Decade - #10 Dan Hawkins

After the tumultuous reign of Gary Barnett ended at Colorado (recruiting scandals, NCAA violations... Katie Hnida), they were looking for an even-tempered, mild-mannered coach to come in and clean up the program. In December, 2005 they made what most pundits considered to be a fantastic hire: Boise State's Dan Hawkins. He was 53-11 at Boise and won 4 straight WAC titles. The quiet genius was brought in to fix what was wrong in Boulder. Hawkins is a unique creature, especially among football coaches. He's known for his taste for reading and music, zen-like qualities, and mostly calm demeanor.

Little did Colorado know though that when they hired Dan Hawkins that he would provide one of the most bizarre soundbytes of the decade. After a bad season in 2006, Hawkins was faced with complaints from parents about the kids being worked too hard. So, at a 2007 Signing Day press confrence, the calm, cerebral Hawkins unleashed this beauty which just makes the list at #10 in our Soundbytes of the Decade! I always liked intramurals...

Check back soon for our #9 Soundbyte of the Decade, which will take us on another trip into bizarro world with the most infamous sideline interview of the decade, see you soon, brother.

Great choice. I will see how many of your top 10 I can pick.

Infamous sideline, my nominations are Joe Namath and Susie or Mike Ditka and the invincible Jim McMahon...nothing quite like it!!

Whew, glad to know someone else agreed with me that this hidden gem deserved to be in the top 10. As far as #9, it's too bad there isn't some hybrid of a drunk Joe Namath trying to kiss Mike Ditka, that would be soundbyte of the millenium!

Good choice for number 10. Soundbytes are based on memorable lines that anyone, when they hear it, knows who said that. Intramurals is one of those soundbytes.

A+
