Welcome all to the hodge-podge that is my mind. With so many things going on in the world of sports, I'd like to touch on a guy you might have heard of, Timothy Ezekiel Tebow (ok I made up that middle name). As the RSS Draft Guru, I've been paying very close attention to the plight of Jesus Christ Quarterback as he tries to resurrect a shot at a pro career. As the great Jack Nicholson said in "The Shining,": All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, etc..... so lets get it on!
Today was the day many were waiting for as the University of Florida held their pro day for the various personnell from NFL teams. Although UF has plenty of first-round caliber talent (Dunlap, Haden, Pouncey and Gonzalez) the attention was on Tim Tebow. The talk of NFL inner circles and management was the reformed throwing motion Tebow has developed with the help of a coach. The ball is not raised up to his ear, allowing a quicker release which will help to get the ball out in the face of oncoming rushers. It appeared to be much like the throwing motion of Jimmy Clausen and was hoped to make an impact on many in attendance. Did it? Doubtful.
There is one glaring question that many will have with this new throwing motion of Tebow's: can it be replicated under a stiff defensive rush? The only way to know that is getting him under center and finding out. The trouble with that revelation is that a team will be weary of drafting him under this assumption, only to find he reverts back to the low drop before bring up the ball. Tebow says this is getting natural but when the instincts kick in, what will he do?
As Tebow tired in the drills, he began to resort to the long, looping motion that would get him killed in the NFL. It's clear that Tebow will not be able to step in right away and start from Day 1, but he was evidently impressive enough to earn an invite to New York City. With Mike Holmgren present at the workout and all of the QB shuffling in Cleveland, could Tim Tebow be a Brown in Round 2? Will someone trade up and take him in Round 1? It's admirable for Tebow to accept the invite, especially if he sits until the middle of Round 2. One thing's for sure, it will be the highest rated draft in years.
Yours truly is looking forward to the next 3 weeks of basketball action that will take over all bars, televisions and time many spend working (including me). I am in no way the biggest NCAA Baskeball fan but I love to participate in bracket pools to take money from the schlubs who try to compete with me. The only downfall in this whole process is that Jennifer Hudson now sings "One Shining Moment", replacing the late Luther Vandross. Shame. Shame.
That is it now from the desk of Brother Yohey and his ravings. Stay tuned to further musings, and be careful out there!
