Special Comment: AP = Always Pathetic

Am I the only one who is just flabbergasted with the AP calling a re-vote on their precious NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year after the Brian Cushing revelation? It is just idiotic and pretentious for the AP to make a big scene about Cushing's test. After all, does it really mean anything or hold any credence? No. It is just a nice thing to win. In the long run though, it just goes to show the hypocrisy and utter worthless value these awards have. Need evidence?

2002: NFL Defensive ROY was Julius Peppers for the then Carolina Panthers. What happened to Peppers? He was suspended the final 4 games of that season for taking a banned dietary supplement. The result; no "rev-ote", no stripping of the award. N-O-T-H-I-N-G.

2005: Shawne Merriman, after winning the award and playing phenomenally in the Pro Bowl, was found to have taken steroids, not "performing enhancing drugs", steroids. The end result; nothing. He still is known as the 2005 Defensive ROY.

Do you see the evident double-standard here? Why should Cushing lose the award when Peppers and Merriman, who were found guilty of practically the same thing, be off scot free? The pretentious people who vote on this joke of an award (looking at you John Clayton and Peter King) need to get off their high horse and realize that their vote means (cue Jim Mora) diddly poo.

Cushing did test positive in September of 2009, but he did have to play the rest of the season while being tested and passed all those tests, and still put up numbers worthy enough to be dubbed ROY. I can only see this backfiring in any sport which hands out awards like these. If Sean Payton is found guilty of stealing Vicodin, will they strip him or any awards? Will LT be removed from the Hall of Fame for his latest indiscretion? Roger Clemens and his Cy Young Awards? Bonds?! A line has to be drawn in regards to these silly "re-votes", because who knows where it will lead.

Shame on you, AP voters who condone this and will re-vote for someone other than Cushing. Oh, I'm sorry that you feel cheated that your precious vote went to someone who didn't play the game as cleanly as you would like. You know who I think would feel the most cheated? Jarious Byrd, Clay Matthews and Brian Orakpo - the candidates . How would you like to be the guy who wins this award after a re-vote? Nice to have an accomplishment accompanied by an "*".
