Hot Off The Grill - CFB Week 6 Preview

Time once again to get the grill fired up for our College Football Preview for the 2nd Weekend in October. We would like to say that we don't deserve all of the awards and accolades, or to be mentioned in the company of so many transformational people for our blogging, but it is a call to action and a hope for the future! And hey, who doesn't want some love from social elites and a bunch of Europeans, right? Onward we shall go!

Big Kielbasa's Game Of the Week - #1 Florida @ #4 LSU

A nation holds its collective breath. Will Tim Tebow be ready to play in Baton Rouge in primetime on Saturday? Will Florida's march to the national championship finally meet some resistance? Will LSU finally look like a Top 5 team? Will the magic in the Baton Rouge night remain supreme? All these questions will finally be answered by midnight on Saturday as Florida visits LSU with both teams unbeaten.

If Tebow doesn't play, the big edge has to go to LSU. Can you name Florida's backup? Good, because neither can we. That, and I don't have the time to look it up right now. Anyways, LSU's defense played very well between the hedges in a place that isn't easy to come away with a victory from. With all of the questions that surround this game, most of them reside in the Gators camp. Even if Tebow plays, will he be able to be effective? Even if he plays it might not be enough to overcome the Louisiana night. PICK-LSU

Beer Brat's Spotlight Game Of the Week - Wisconsin @ #9 Ohio State

The national media just won't give up will they? For three weeks running, pick after pick has come in against the Buckeyes. (Let the Mark May comments roll in...) First it was supposed to be Illinois, then it was supposed to be Indiana. Yes, one "expert" on the Big 10 Network picked Indiana to beat Ohio State, and not in basketball. This week, it's Wisconsin that is supposed to knock off the Bucks and gain the inside track to Big 10 supremacy. With Michigan going down last week (we had to get one upset right, finally!) this game could go a long way in deciding the conference. Wisconsin is a strong team, but do they have enough to win in Columbus against one of the nation's top defenses? Don't go saying OSU needs to be back in national title contention, but they'll handle business in the Shoe. PICK-OSU

Chorizo's Upset Of the Week - #3 Alabama @ #20 Ole Miss
This game is a perfect candidate for an upset. An Ole Miss team that was exposed on the road against South Carolina needs to come back and make a statement with a big conference win. No, they weren't Top 5 worthy, but they are a Top 10-15 caliber team. . Alabama has been scooting along against weak competition for way too long. Although Mark Ingram stepped it up last week and could be in for a big day this week, but Jevan Snead will have a bigger day. Yes, this pick is a little nuts, but I accept that. PICK-Ole Miss

Andouille's Under the Radar Game - #22 Georgia Tech @ Florida State
While LSU and Florida are duking it out under the lights in Louisiana, Bobby Bowden will be fighting to save a head coaching career that has lasted back to 1970. Bowden has been under pressure from fans, and now the administration at FSU is turning the screws on the veteran head coach. The ridiculousness of Jimbo Fisher as the "coach in waiting", Bowden holding on for too long, and a clueless administration has made this a giant quagmire. Both of these teams have been incredibly up and down this season, and are impossible to figure out, but here's saying that the Seminoles rally around their leader one more time. PICK-FSU

Hot Dog Of The Week - Colt McCoy QB-Texas

This is too easy. McCoy faces a Colorado team that might as well be playing intramurals under Dan Hawkins. Here's that classic soundbyte once more. In truth, there aren't a lot of candidates for our Hot Dog of the Week. The Heisman race sees contenders like Clausen and Pike sit out this week, Tebow's concussion puts his hopes in jeopardy, so who's left? It's McCoy. He needs a big game against a weak opponent this week to build the hype heading into a Red River Shootout against a wounded OU team.

Extra Toppings -
-For those of you wondering why we haven't mentioned any receivers in the Heisman Watch, well it could be because the best WR in the country, OK St.'s Dez Bryant was ruled ineligible for the season for having dinner with Deion Sanders. Only in the NCAA! Where dreams die over some steak and grilled onions!
-Who's most thankful about all of the pressure on Bobby Bowden at FSU? Joe Paterno of course! You'd have to wake him up first though...
-By the way, can anyone explain this whole "Head Coach in Waiting" thing? Is it like waiting to go into the dentist's office? Does that go on your office door? Is there ever a coup d'etat to become, you know, the real head coach. This might be the dumbest new college tradition I've ever heard of. If you have one good reason for this idea, please let me know.
-So much for Rich Rodriguez as coach of the year, now that the shine is off, don't be surprised to see a young Michigan team to suffer a few more losses.
-Va Tech still leads the one loss brigade, but does anyone think they are better than OSU or USC, or the loser of LSU and Florida?
-Speaking of the rankings, explain this to me. #5 VT 1 loss, #6 Boise 0 losses, #7 USC 1 loss, #8 Cincy 0 losses, #9 OSU 1 loss, #10 TCU 0 losses. Please, please, please, somehow let this wreck havoc on the BCS and don't screw these unbeaten teams.
-If you don't want to take our word for this weekend's picks, and why would you, here's even more picks from our friends over at Rumors and Rants, check it out.
-Finally, the Award for, Yes, This Man In College Football Was Screwed Out Of The Nobel Peace Prize goes to..... Lou Holtz! Not only for the inspirational Dr. Lou segments, but for taking a Notre Dame Alumni team to Japan. Now that's bringing peace to the world!

I can see Lou's acceptance speech now...

"That was the golly gosh best darn team of Japanese football players that we have ever played against. Their talent and ability took our veteran Notre Dame alumni ballclub down to the wire and it was their heart and determination that really inspired me. Gosh, they can hang with Navy or Army. And how 'bout Jimmy Clausen. Golly, he is the best quarterback that has ever played at Notre Dame. And, I know they have one loss, but Charlie Weis and Notre Dame will be in the BCS Championship this year. Thank you for this award, this is the best darn Nobel Peace Prize that I have ever won. You know, I recruited a guy from Norway once, and he was the best darn Norwegian football player..."

As Norwegian old security guards take the stage to take away the befuddled old man...

Randall's Got His Eye On You... Everybody in College Football

Someone, some team, some player, some coach... anybody, please give us a memorable moment for this College Football season! What happened to our 3 Star QB's that were going to burn down the house this season? What happened to all of the gunslingers in the Big 12? What happened to all of the world-beaters in the SEC? What happened to Choklahoma? What happened to all of the dramatic upsets? What happened to the thrilling Top 25 battles that went back and forth? Randall's squarely looking at the LSU/Florida showdown and other games this week to give us something special this weekend.

Hot Off The Grill is back with our look ahead at Week 5 in the National. Football. League. With the Saints on a bye, the motivation will be tough, but I'll soldier through for the RSS universe! I'll also accept any nominations for any awards out there, so just write in to your favorite committee. Bye for now!
