Yoders' Live Blog: 2010 Fiesta Bowl - TCU v Boise State

9:55 - End of the 1st half. The score at the end of the half was huge for TCU. Boise dominated 95% of the first half, but the score says differently. Sadly for our comedic purposes, Rosen and Ryan have actually been passable on announcing a college game for the first time this year. We'll put the 2nd half on a fresh article up above this one so check it out. Enjoy the Boise & TCU bands... and Chris Rose.

9:49 - And now we have a ballgame! Dalton with a pinpoint pass to Curtis Clay. Dalton's best pass of the game and the key was that they were able to move the ball on the ground just enough to keep Boise honest. 10-7 Broncos.

9:46 - What better way for FOX's Bowl Coverage to conclude than Iowa and Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl and Dick Stockton on commentary. Good to see FOX punish Chris Myers by sending him from Detroit to Phoenix to Miami on 3 straight days. 1:30 to work for TCU and at least get a FG.

9:43 - Awful, awful, awful call on the PI penalty. For once, I'll agree with Tim Ryan on that one. TCU not catching any breaks in the Fiesta Bowl.

9:40 - TCU could really use a turnover or safety with Boise backed up to get some momentum. They have a whopping 75 yards of total offense, maybe that 31-28 prediction was a little on the high side.

9:35 - You know, we're not experts here or anything, but more punts than 1st downs for TCU is not a good thing. Now we hear that TCU's center is the only married player on the team. Sam Rosen saying that marriage brings maturity, followed by uncomfortable forced laughter. (Insert own Tiger Woods joke here)

9:29 - Boise does get the FG this time. 10-0 Broncos, but I'm not sure these teams are really capturing the nation at this point.

9:26 - Boise picks up the 1st Down. If the US Government wants to step in for the BCS mess, they should step in and mandate that teams aren't allowed to change the name of the Wildcat.

9:22 - Boise going for it on 4th & 3, well, now a timeout. My guess is that Petersen calls the Annexation of Puerto Rico here. If you don't get that, you aren't a fan of football... or Rick Moranis.

9:18 - OK, back to the scheduled programming... TCU doesn't look like they're in the game yet. You have to wonder if they're just a little flat seeing as how they beat Boise last year and aren't getting a shot at the national title.

9:13 - More punting as it looks like HBK and Hart are going to bury the hatchet! Wow, this is good TV. I bet McMahon comes out to ruin the moment...

9:07 - Boise now punting as Bret Hart calls out HBK while it looks like we're having an NWOesque reunion against Hogan, wow, we might have to make an improptu live blog switch!

9:03 - Might be a lack of updates while both Hogan and Hart are in the ring on Raw and Impact respectively - TCU getting ready to punt again.

9:01 - Big hit on Dalton by Wilson as the QB stays down. TCU lucky to get the ball back. Geez, this could be the end of the game right now, yipes.

8:58 - Penalty killed that drive as Professor Football tells us it's important to get points whenever you can as Boise misses a FG. Can TCU take advantage?

8:54 - Moore doing his best Fran Tarkenton impersonation on that huge pass play. Boise now in the red zone looking to go up two scores.

8:50 - In a 2 play span I think we got 3 crowd shots and 2 cheerleader shots. I'm sure everyone is really going to miss FOX doing these bowl games... thank God our first band shot just appeared! Someone get me an advil! Boise nearing midfield and have a 3rd & short.

8:45 - TCU has to settle down. Their D is good enough to strike like Boise just did, but they'll need something positive offensively as they get ready to punt again.

8:43 - TCU desperately needs something good to happen and go to the run game, Dalton just threw into triple coverage on 1st down. Now a false start. So far I feel like I'm watching Cincy v Florida.

8:38 - I was just going to type that TCU was finally starting to move the ball... until Dalton throws a Pick 6 to Brandyn Thompson. On 2nd look it was a poor route by the WR. The big story here is how does TCU respond on the big stage for the first time, so far not well. 7-0 Broncos.

8:35 - Much like during our All-Star Game running diary I'm stupified by a Taco Bell ad. This time it's a drive-thru diet. Do the words Taco Bell and diet ever belong in the same sentence besides I'm going on a diet to get away from Taco Bell??

8:32 - Good advice from Tim Ryan for TCU to stop the run and make Boise State one-dimensional throwing the ball. Boise QB Kellen Moore is the top rated passer in the nation. You know, maybe it's just crazy enough to work!

8:30 - Good reversal of field position for TCU, until a well-timed personal foul penalty pushes them back.

8:28 - Love the throw deep on 1st down. C Thomas Byrd is a coach's son... he knows football, as if we shouldn't expect him to know football. Love the deep, personal insight! 3rd & 5 right here and Moore goes deep again and overthrown by about 20 yards. Good defense?

8:25 - Dalton doesn't convert on 3rd and 10... expect to hear Rosen say "everybody out" on about 98% of the pass plays for whatever reason.

8:22 - Finally we are underway as TCU returns the opening kick to the 24, let's see what the Frogs can do on their first drive in their slick Nike Combat unis. Seems like the crowd is heavily in favor of Boise as Dalton almost throws a pick on the first play.

8:21 - As a reminder as to how this works, just refresh the page every few minutes or so for our updated insights and cheap attempts at humor. Y1's comments in green, Y2's in blue. And, leave us comments below or tweet us to interact!

8:19 - By the way, I should make it known that I convinced my brother to become a fan of House, great ad. One of my great achievements of 2009. Also, John Cena is flipping the coin tonight while the WWE is bringing back Bret Hart and TNA is introducing Hulk Hogan. If it wasn't for this whole TCU/Boise thing I might have flashbacks to junior high. Kickoff is due at some point in the next 12 hours...

8:12 - Boise State's hammer exemplifies their special teams... then why isn't their kicker bringing it out to the roar of the crowd?

8:11 - Nice to see that Rosen and Ryan upgraded from their 1970's incredibly fake looking background to the real thing today. TCU apparently is worthy of national title consideration.. everywhere except the BCS.

8:09 - So Chris Myers is working the sidelines, let's see if he pulls off another horrible joke about the Amsterdam airport security like he did yesterday during the Bears game (how bout that Devin Aromashodu!). Yea, a terrorism joke during a football game... if you don't believe me, here it is on Awful Announcing.

8:05 - Y1: Cue another puff piece for how much this means to the players, I wonder why nobody asked them about not getting the opportunity to prove themselves against one of the big boys. By the way, I'm most excited about the opportunity to liveblog Sam Rosen and Tim Ryan after watching them on several Saints games this season, I'll project an 8.8 on the meatheaded analyst scale.

7:53 - Y2: The game is almost upon us, and thankfully, we've managed to miss most of FOX's pregame show. It looks like they're currently doing a puff piece on Boise St. Although give credit to HC Chris Pedersen for taking the program to even greater heights than Dan Hawkins. As for predictions, Y1 is switching from our Bowl Pick 'Em and taking Boise 31-28 while I'll stick with TCU 30-17.

Tonight, to celebrate two undefeated schools playing in a bowl game that have no chance at a National Championship, it's the return of the Yoders' Live Blog. We'll give extra attention to the little giants of college football that others won't. We'll also get a lot of chances to make fun of Fox's awful college football coverage, especially Sam Rosen and Tim Ryan, who we're lucky enough to have broadcasting the game tonight. We'll laugh, we'll cry, and hopefully we'll watch a compelling bowl game. Join us tonight for all the fun! Just refresh the page every few minutes throughout the evening and leave your comments below or tweet us at RSS_Sports.

Just whose little mitt was that digging into the Tostidos bag..what blatant commercialism. I guess you have to find entertainment where you can since the game it dull!!!

Mr. Yoder I said...

These production folks are tricky aren't they... hopefully the game picks up in the second half and there are more blatant broadcast faux pas to poke fun at!
