Sunday Sausage Links - 3/7/10

It's time for another edition of our Sunday Sausage Links. This time, brought to you by the newest Chicago Bear, Julius Peppers! While Bears fans rejoice at another splashy offseason move (and maybe, another year of disappointment) there are tons of other stories that may pique your interest around the blogosphere. So, without further ado, let's link it up!

News
-Big Ben is in the news again, for all the wrong reasons. Another allegation of sexual assault, this time in Georgia. Hey, at least ESPN decided to cover the story this time! (ESPN)

-A scary scene the other night in Cleveland as Rodney Stuckey collapsed on the bench. Thankfully, after a stay in the Cleveland Clinic, he seems to be alright...(SI.com)

-...On the brighter side last night in Cleveland, the fans set some sort of record involving the Snuggie, which, I hear is not quite as useful as it looks on those commercials. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

-Saturday began Championship Week where schools big and small got their chance to punch a ticket to the Big Dance. And, for some reason, tiny Winthrop and their fans are already calling out Kansas and Kentucky. (NBC Sports)

-Across the Pond, the World Cup dream is over for Man U. and England striker Michael Owen. The shock isn't Owen being injured again, the shock is he managed to stay healthy long enough to get hurt, the surprise is there's a soccer player in England not involved in a sex scandal! (Sky Sports)

-Another Cubs season, and another great start! This time, a key relief pitcher discovers a potentially career-ending shoulder injury in Spring Training. Can't we fast forward to September, already? (Chicago Sun-Times)

The Blogosphere/Opinion
-Dueling articles from the Chicago Tribune on the Bears big splash into free agency as David Haugh attempts to provide a reality check while Dan Pompei already has another potential free agent in Da Bears crosshairs (and yes, they still do need a safety!) (Chicago Tribune)

-A smart article from MLS Talk about the ongoing labor dispute in MLS (yes, MLS still exists) and the decision by ESPN to have all foreign play-by-play commentators for the World Cup. (MLS Talk)

-Mike Florio thinks a narrative is beginning to be cast over Big Ben, and not the good kind...at least, as long as he doesn't marry any Swedish babysitters. (Pro Football Talk)

-Have these sports traditions "jumped the shark"? Is it possible for the phrase Jump the Shark to have jumped the shark? (Favre Dollar Footlongs)

-Leave it to Bob Ryan of all people to give a pat on the back to Canadians for the job they did in putting on the Olympics. Hey, at least one person thinks you didn't have the suckiest Olympics ever! (Boston Globe)

Just for Fun
-Count Chad EightFive, gold medalist Evan Lysacek, and Erin Andrews as sports personalities in the newest installment of Dancing With the Stars. As long as all three can get past Buzz Aldrin and neglectful Mom of the Year Kate Gosselin, their reputations should remain relatively in tact. (Awful Announcing)

-Speaking of Chad HuitCinq, our pal Jimmy Traina has a revealing interview with the mercurial Bengals star...and I do mean, revealing. If only they didn't further punish Jimmy by burying Hot Clicks on the front page! (SI.com)

-And finally...for some ungodly reason, Ric Flair will be wrestling Hulk Hogan live this Monday night. Their combined age, only 107 years old! Hey, at least this will give us an idea what Brett Favre will be doing in 20 years! (UK Sun)

That does it for another round of Sunday Sausage Links. Tune in this week for our roundtable previewing Championship Week in college basketball and a full recap of the winners and losers in NFL Free Agency. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and until next time, it's bye for now!
